I’m so excited to say that today was Ysabels 2nd day without the Dummy! I honestly thought it would be so much harder but she’s a little champ and done so well. Yesterday was obviously the hardest as she cried both day nap and at night when I put her down – but only for about 30 mins each time and then she fell asleep. Today was no problem at all with her going to sleep with no crying. YAY! Also, we’ve done away with the bottle at the same time – now she just has weetbix in the morning and milk in a sippy cup at night after dinner.
Ysabel now says about 14 words. This improvement has been so relieving for us to see as I for one was starting to get worried!
Ysabel LOVES the pool! Wehave a 2m x 2m blow up pool in our courtyard and she wants to go in it ALL the time! Also, she likes to lie down under the water, turn around, then come up out of the water clapping. It scared me at first but I guess it’s a good swimming skill to learn. Also, at my parents house, she likes to jump in thier pool (large and deep) without any floaties on. She’s very confident and doesn’t really mind the cold water. However because she is so confident I will need to keep an eye on her around the water.
Ysabel now wakes up at about 6.30am, has her day nap at about 12.00noon – 2.00, then goes down for her night sleep at about 8pm. It’s going great.
She also has 4 new teeth coming in up the top (still).

Ysabel turned 20 months old yesterday, and guess what – she now has 10 teeth! She has skipped getting in her 3rd and 4th bottom incisors (havn’t come in), and now has her 4 first molars!! Don’t know what happened to the other incisors, I wonder if they’ll ever come!?
Ysabel loves playing with her teddy’s now, she’ll carry around one and cuddle and kiss it and play with it. Very cute.
She is interacting more with kids her own age, whereas before she would just ignore them and go do her own thing – now she will look at them and smile and do what they are doing.
Ysabel is not really talking that much still, but has made a great improvement in the last few months. I know she is OK as she’ll randomly say a word but when you ask her to say it again, she refuses. She is stubborn and quiet like her parents I think.
Ysabel has been sleeping in the ‘big bed’ for over a week now – for both sleeps. I usually read her a few books/stories before her bedtime, then sing a few songs and depending if she is still wide awake or pretty sleepy, I’ll stay or leave. She’s been quite good, but recently not so good – I think she’s teething again!
Ysabel is pretty picky about her food these days. She used to eat pretty much anything, but recently has gone ‘off’ some of her favs. I don’t worry, I just try her with something else, and then introduce it again in a few weeks. I don’t intend on ever stigmatising her as not liking/eating something in particular e.g. if she won’t eat peas this week I don’t count them as ‘she won’t eat peas’ so I’ll never give them to her again, I just won’t feed them to her this week.

I just wanted to post an update since the last post as Ysabel has been excelling in a few areas:
- Ysabel has been talking! She can say “hello/hola’” sounds like “hiya”, “up”, “ouch”, “uh-oh”, and “three”.
- Today was her first experience painting. She LOVED it! She made a HUGE mess outside and all over herself but it was okay; it all cleaned up fine. She did two paintings and I’m definately going to scrapbook one of them!
- Ysabel self-fed herself with a spoon today for the first time. I usually like to help her put the spoon into her mouth but I thought I would just let her do it today with some yoghurt and see how she would go and she was pretty good. She was able to hold the spoon well, scoop up the yoghurt, bring it to her mouth and then she opened up her mouth nice and big etc. She got a little messy but not too bad.
- Ysabel has come along really well with pointing. We have been reading books before her 2 sleeps and I’ve been asking her where things are in certain books she knows, and she has been pointing ant the correct things, and if she doesn’t point to the object I ask her to point to, I just point to it.
Still no more teeth!

So my “little one” isn’t so little anymore. She really is becoming a girl. She has started wearing size 2′s now.
I forgot to mention that at her 18 month check up at the Drs she weighed in at 12 kilos. Hurrah! She’s still in the 75% percentile.
Ysabel has begun to babble and point more and more. She is non-stop all day making babbling noises and animal noises. She “talks” and sings all. the. time. I love it!!
I was a little worried a month ago that she was not talking yet, but since then she has proven me that she is fine and normal etc, and she has really blossomed thanks to some activities that were suggested to me by a Speech Pathologist friend (thanks Gill).
We’ll see how she comes along in the next few weeks….
Ysabel STILL has only 6 teeth – although last night and today she’s been a little cranky and touching her gums so we may have some more on thier way.
I have introduced playdough and drawing the past couple of months but she just isn’t interested. Nevertheless we keep trying – everyday I do something ‘creative’ with her; I rotate between drawing with pencils and paper or her coloring in book, and playing with the playdough. We’ll get there.
Ysabel has slightly improved with interacting with other children. She used to just play by herself and be in her own play world, but today for example, she had a little chase game with our neighbour’s little girl. Very cute.
Ysabel has started showing interest in feeding herself so I am providing a spoon and/or fork with her meals so she can try to feed herself. Today whilst eating yoghurt, I was supervising her feeding herself with the spoon. When she was about half way done I was getting slightly impatient so I tried just me feeding her but she wouldn’t have it – she really wanted to hold the spoon and feed herself!
She has also begun to show TONS of affection to me over the past couple of weeks. She’ll run up to me and cuddle me and give me a scary open mouth, toothy kiss. I get very scared that she’ll bite me but I try not to get too frightened as I don’t want to discourage the kisses!
OK well thats about all the news I have. Photos….

Yay! Ysabel is 18 months old. Not much has changed to be honest; she still has only 6 teeth (2 bottom, 4 top), still doesn’t really speak, and is still a cutie!
Her hair is getting so long! I cut her fringe the other day as it was majorly gettting in her face. I didn’t do a very good job (see photos) but hey, it’s only hair – it’ll grow back!
We tried (or I tried) putting down one side of her crib so it was more like a bed, but she didn’t go very well. She kept getting out of bed and for the 5 or so days I tried it I was having to stay by her bedside and sing to her lots of songs until she would fall asleep – and it wasn’t getting any easier after 5 days so me and Christian decided she wasn’t ready, and now shes back in the cot with both sides on.
A really cute thing Ysabel has started doing lately is some animal noises and actions. She has learnt about 1-2 new animals a week. She knows the cow (goes “moo” while putting her hands on her head – this is supposed to be horns), duck (waves her hands while trying to make a “quack” noise), crocadile (claps her hands), elephant (she does a cow noise while sticking out an arm), and today we introduced the snake – she’s not too hot with the “ssss” noise yet.
Other than that exciting (sarcastic) news, she’s very healthy, happy and active.
Oh and she’s been going to nursery now for about 4 weeks – shes really well behaved too
certainly doesn’t miss her mummy at all.

I know it’s been a while since this photo shoot was taken in March! I had a professional photo shoot when Ysabel was born and I was adamant that I would have another when she turned 1. The lady who did her newborn shoot moved to Brisbane (http://www.photographybyshayla.com/) so I asked so called “amateur” Olivia Dycueco and she did such a fantastic job! Thanks Liv!!
